After more than 25 years in bi-vocational ministry, the Lord stirred Wayne & Cindy Farris back toward full-time pastoring. With the support of their sending pastors (Pastors Dan & Mary Bursch) and home church Lifespring Foursquare, a long season of seeking specific direction from the Lord began. Those efforts led to praying around the region, from northeastern Oregon to western Montana. On one scouting trip, a chance coffee date directed them from Deer Park, WA toward Airway Heights, WA, south on Swenson to a stop sign at HWY 291, where the Lord said, “Welcome home.” Three weeks later, Dec 1st, 2019, they moved into the Suncrest area of Nine Mile Falls.
Three months later, COVID would change their steps but not stop their plans. Embedding themselves into this beautiful community
became the mission, Cindy in her job with the school district, Wayne as a Chaplain with Stevens County Fire, and on the Lake Spokane Parks & Recreation board.
By May of 2021, a small group of about 16 people began to gather weekly at the Farris home, forming what would become Journey’s launch team. So many of that initial band of brothers and sisters had their own paths and stories that the Lord was providentially directing so as to bring them all together in that place, at that moment in time. All of them would become such an integral part of the Journey story.
While Lifespring Foursquare Church (Edgewood, WA) was Journey’s sending church, our commitment to the bigger ‘C’ church was evident even in our initial DNA. Our church plant was ‘seeded’ and co-planted by North Church (Spokane, WA), The Heights Church (Airway Heights, WA), Life Center (Spokane, WA); and strongly supported by Suncrest Worship (Nine Mile Falls, WA), Foursquare West Coast Multiply, various churches in the PNW Church Planting Movement collaborative, and more.
On December 12, 2021, we held our first public gathering at Lakeside High School.
“LOVING PEOPLE to their GREATER STORY in JESUS”
The Word of God is living, real, and relevant. Its truth is our bedrock, all other strategic anchors are bound to it and derive from it.
We are Word-based and Spirit-led. We bathe all we do in the presence and person of the Holy Spirit, His power, and peace.
We love everybody, always.
We ‘set the table’, welcoming each other with smiles, coffee, great music, and a homey atmosphere.
We sincerely enjoy serving Jesus and serving others, and it shows.
We have experienced the undeserved grace of God, and we choose to extend it to others.
We offer the freedom and space to come as you are and discover Jesus at your own pace while encouraging forward growth.
We value music and all forms of the creative arts, and endeavor to celebrate them wherever possible.
We are committed to supporting others living their lives out loud.
We are all about Jesus. There is no nuance or latest fad for us. All that we do is measured against this single plumb line.
We plan and produce excellent content and events as much as possible, but never at the expense of our people.
We function as a team and lead a community where everyone is a minister. We purpose to help others discover their spiritual gifts and encourage them to live on mission in their daily lives.
We value the wisdom, work, and dreams of our elder, as well as the training, passion, and vision of our younger generations.
We equally esteem the unique gifts, perspectives, and voices of every race and ethnicity in the body of Christ.
We are real people committed to walking in humility. We prefer wrestling with our faith, rather than faking it in perfection.
We know life is hard and people are messy, we run to the messes. We see broken people as masterpieces in the making.
We meet people where they are, digging wells for all to drink from rather than building walls defining who is in and who is out.
We take the stewardship of leading our community seriously. Fiscal responsibility, ethical leadership, wise counsel, accountable management, and compelling vision are hallmarks of our governance and operation.
We are part of Foursquare, known more formally as the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel (ICFG). Our larger Foursquare family has over 8.8 million members in over 67,500 churches across more than 150 nations.
Journey’s story is nothing more than the collective story of what God is doing in the life of each person and family that has decided to call Journey home.
Maybe our next chapter includes you? We’d love to hear your story!
